Intellectual Approach
This page describes the principles I try to follow when I write and share ideas here. They are commitments I hold myself to, not rules for anyone else.
Facts, evidence, interpretation and opinion
I try to make clear which of these I am offering. A fact can be checked; evidence supports a claim to some degree; an interpretation is one reading of the evidence; an opinion is my own judgement. Where it matters, I say which is which, and I cite sources where I can.
Certainty and revision
I do not claim absolute certainty. My views are my best current understanding, and I am willing to revise them when better evidence or a stronger argument appears. When I get something wrong, I prefer to correct it openly.
Disagreement
Thoughtful disagreement is welcome. I try to represent other positions fairly, to respond to the strongest version of an argument rather than the weakest, and to keep disagreement about ideas rather than people.
Personal, not universal
I try not to present personal beliefs or preferences as universal facts. What works in my experience or context may not apply to yours.
Thinking for yourself
The aim is to help readers think, not to tell them what to think. I encourage you to question what you read here, compare it with other sources, and reach your own conclusions.
What this site does not do
This site does not engage in political or religious advocacy. It is focused on professional knowledge, learning and practical ideas.
The values behind it
Intellectual honesty: saying what I know, what I think, and what I am unsure of.
Fairness: treating ideas and people with respect, including those I disagree with.
Curiosity: asking better questions and staying open to learning.
Humility: remembering that any single view, including mine, is partial.
